The Travel Team have donated more thongs to the community, this time to the Australian Red Cross.
Members of the Travel Team visited the Red Cross Wellbeing Centre in Cairns on Wednesday 18 December 2024, gifting the Red Cross two tubs of thongs and one tub of toiletries.
Kylie Wood, Lead Community Programs – Cairns Wellbeing Centre accepted the donations on behalf of the Australian Red Cross.
Olivia Smith, TCHHS Acting Travel Supervisor said the donations were very much appreciated by the Australian Red Cross.
“Many Torres and Cape patients and family have minimal supplies when travelling, especially if they have been medically evacuated.
“If people come to the local airport without appropriate footwear, they may miss the flight or need to be rescheduled.
“By having these items available, it reduces stress on families at an already incredibly stressful time,” she said.
This donation was part of the Travel Team’s 2024 Christmas Service Project “Every journey begins with a Single Step”.
As part of the same Christmas Service Project, members of the Travel Team also delivered thongs to Meriba Mudh and Jumula Dubbins hostels on Thursday Island on 27 November 2024.
Well done Travel Team! Thank you to everyone who donated – the total number of thongs collected was almost double that of last year!
